Buzzfuse Drives Traffic to Your Blog

Jan 31, 2008 Author: hazel | Filed under: Tips and Tools

There’s a new traffic generating social media site in town. Its called Buzzfuse which is very appropriate as its basic purpose is to pick up on the buzz online and make sure that its easily assessable and marketed for maximum exposure. The program was created in South Africa and is very clever and very useful for driving traffic to your blog or website.

Buzzfuse allows content creators to showcase their work (music, photographs, blogs, cartoons, etc.) and allows content consumers to discover, review and share that content. That serves the needs for the producers and the consumers. Many of us are on both ends of that spectrum.

Here is a quick overview of how it works:

  • Sign up for a BuzzFuse* account (the entry one is free, the premium is $10 pmonth). Its a very simple and quick registration process.
  • Create your content. That would be whatever you want to highlight and drive traffic to. For instance, a new Wordpress theme, a particular post on your blog, your website, MySpace, etc.
  • Register the content on your BuzzFuse account, and get a simple widget to post with the content on your website.
  • Once you have the widget on your post or with whatever content you have uploaded then anyone who views your content can click on the widget, and get taken to your BuzzFuse page where they can:
    • Comment on your content
    • Rate it
    • Discuss it
    • Share it with their friends
  • At the end of the day, all BuzzFuse members get a personal email, which suggests new content based on their friend recommendations, rankings etc
  • You can check the interactivity around your content, the ranking and general feedback with the Reporting tools.

Pretty cool. You just upload your content and Buzzfuse markets it. Its content driven and the widgets make it easy to access by any visitors to your blog or website.

Custom Guide to Over 500 Cities

Dec 27, 2007 Author: hazel | Filed under: Tips and Tools

If you are planning a trip anytime soon - or any time at all for that matter - you might want to check in with HotelsByCity.net before you travel. They have custom written guides to over 500 cities from around the world. The website will help you find Cheap Hotels, cars and flights. They go further than just the basics though, they also give you a feel for the city, a little history, events and sites of interest. It really covers just about everything you need to plan a trip whether you are going for business or pleasure.

You can search the site by picking the country/state/city you are looking for and you will get a full listing of the best deals for hotels so that you can compare prices and accommodations easily. You can also search the site by going to the site map where you will find a complete listing of the cities that are covered through the site. Choose ‘guides‘ in the menu on the home page to find the most popular destinations by country. They also have the top ten get-away destinations for various activities such as honeymoons, New Year’s Eve, snowboarding, skiing, theme parks, spas and much more.

I was thinking of a trip to Bangkok, Thailand. As you know, that’s where many of the beautiful people go for the spas and to get a little work done here and there so they can stay beautiful. Not to mention, its an absolutely glorious city and country. Taking a look at HotelsByCity.net I can compare a long list of hotels to make a decision of which is best for me to stay in according to price and accommodations. I can find out the current weather conditions there and a custom written assessment of the city that includes customs, attractions, history, shopping and what attracts people to visit there.

That’s just one of the many cities you can get a good feel for through HotelsByCity.net. You should seriously consider looking over their guides before you book your next trip.

Traffic Generator

Jul 31, 2007 Author: hazel | Filed under: Tips and Tools

web site promotionWe have really be enjoying our new blog and are very happy with how it’s been being accepted so far. We are like everyone else who blogs, we’d like more people to stop by, read what we have written and leave comments. We’d love for you to subscribe to our feed. That way you can more easily keep up with the updates on Adeline and Hazel.

There are so many blogs out there in about every niche there is. Even though we know we have a great blog, other people don’t unless they come by. All bloggers want more traffic. That’s why we blog, to interact with our readers and share our thoughts or just to have fun.

Tonight I found a site, fechr.com (pronounced Feature), that helps to promote blogs and generate more traffic for member blogs. The only requirement at this time is to write a post like this and submit our blog to fechr.com. The site is in the start-up phase and is offering the service free at this time. Later there will be a charge, which is all the more reason to go ahead and sign up now.

I found this site by accident this evening and found myself moving from blog to blog and found some very interesting blogs and posts in the process. I can certainly see the potential in building a lot of traffic through Fechr. Every day a new blog is featured for 24 hours, driving traffic to the blog and giving visitors the opportunity to find new and interesting blogs to read.

Help Google Get you the Search Results you Want

Jun 21, 2007 Author: hazel | Filed under: Tips and Tools

I just learned something over at GeekySpeaky.

You know how it is with Google. You do a search and get hundreds of thousands of results to sort through. It’s especially difficult if you happen to be searching for a common name. GeakySpeaky uses the example of looking up an ex-boyfriend who happens to have the same name as an 80s rock star. She also explains how to refine the search to get more accurate results for what you are looking for.

Let’s say you’re tracking down an ex-boyfriend, who happens to have the same name as a guy who was in an 80’s band. If you search for the boyfriend by name, obviously, you’re going to get tons of results that aren’t about the specific guy you’re trying to find. You can easily use the minus sign to remove things from your results.

So, in this example, we’ll say your ex is named Kevin DuBrow, which is also the name of the lead singer of Quiet Riot. (I attended a concert of his in 2001 which also featured Warrant and Poison, and Kevin Dubrow autographed my stomach after the show. Anyway…) When you visit Google, and put in the name Kevin Dubrow, you’ll get about 88,000 results. But since you know that your ex is NOT the Quiet Riot singer, you can cancel out results that also have that term, by doing this in the Google search box:

“Kevin Dubrow” -Quiet -Riot

That takes you down to 50,000 results! You could then add -album -musician -record to further filter your results. This is extremely helpful when you’re searching for a term that has 2 different meanings, or a person who has a famous double!

I had no idea you could do that. I thought I’d pass it along.

Happy googling ….

ciao hazel
