I watched parts of the Concert for Diana that aired earlier today on what would have been Princess Diana’s 46th birthday. The concert also marked the 10 year anniversary of her death on August 31, 1997.

Diana’s two sons, Princes William and Harry organized this tribute to their mother attended by close to 70,000 at London’s new Wembley Stadium. All of the proceeds from the event will go to Princess Diana’s charities as well as favorite charities of Princes William and Harry.

Included in the star studded event were performances by Rod Stewart, Elton John, Tom Jones, Kanye West, Joss Stone, and Princess Diana’s favorite, Duran Duran. Elton John opened and closed the concert. The Princes addressed the audience at both the beginning and the end of the concert.

There were rumors that Kate Middleton would accompany Prince William to the concert, but I didn’t see her in the crowd of friends surrounding them in the concert. Prince Harry’s longtime girlfriend Chelsy Davy was with him.

At the close, there was a brief video tribute to Diana’s life featuring childhood pictures.

As the British might say, it was brilliant.

Rumors are swirling that Prince William is courting Kate Middleton again. In April they announced they were ending their relationship. However, earlier this month, Kate was with William at an Army barracks’ party and the two retired to William’s private quarters.

William has also invited Kate attend the memorial concert he and Prince Harry have planned for next week to honor Princess Diana.

What would we do with the Royals! They are a never ending source of voyeurism.

It seems like just yesterday the fairy tale began. It started with the most eligible bachelor in the world finding a blushing young bride in Diana Spencer of England. At first she seemed shy as she dodged the relentless onslaught of camera crews that followed her everywhere.

As time went by she became more adept at working the paparazzi. She was beautiful, graceful and charming and the world fell in love with her. What a marvelous queen she would be! Her every move was documented by the cameras. Then she gave birth to her first son, heir to the throne of England. This was the baby that would become a king. The world was fascinated and wanted to see more.

By the time she gave birth to her second son the fairy tale had soured and morphed into a soap opera. Still the world watched with endless fascination and curiosity. The two handsome sons only added to the photo opportunities.

When Diana died in a tunnel in Paris in 1997 the world mourned as though she was our own. In as sense she was. Everyone had participated vicariously in her life. Following her death, her legend only grew. She would be forever young.

Gradually, over the years since her death, her sons have grown up and become men. They are both Second Lieutenants in the British Army. They are both tall, handsome and as charming as their mother. They both seem to know instinctively how to work the paparazzi to their own advantage.

The world’s fascination continues as the heirs to the throne of England come of age. In a way they, along with their mother, Princess Diana, may have saved the monarchy. They certainly have kept the world’s interest.

Prince William celebrated his 25th birthday on Thursday. He is now eligible to receive income from inheritance left him by his mother Princess Diana. He will have access to the interest accrued on the $13 million left him at the time of her death in 1997. The amount is estimated to be approximately $500,000 per year.

The Associated Press reports.

Harry, 22, William’s brother, will gain access to a similar amount when he turns 25. According to Diana’s will, the brothers gain access to the capital sum when they turn 30.

William and Harry are both second lieutenants in the British army, earning salaries of about $44,000 a year. They also receive money for accommodation and other expenses from their father, Prince Charles.

Now that he is 25, William also can marry without the consent of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II _ but no royal nuptials are on the horizon. William and his long-term girlfriend, Kate Middleton, announced in April that they had split.

We like horses, don’t we Adeline! But we don’t get that kind of inheritance. Maybe their lack of privacy and the constant attention they have to endure is the price paid for being born royal.

Jessica Alba has revealed she has a crush on Prince William. This news probably wasn’t well received by producer Cash Warren, her boyfriend of more than two years.

Jessica, 26, says she is looking for the perfect father for her future children and says, “I always felt I had been born into the wrong family. I felt I should have been a royal.”

Well, William has recently become single again. Who knows, anything can happen!
