Honestly, I can live without oysters, but a lot of people love them, including my husband. Whenever we go to the gulf we have to eat at a certain restaurant that has fantastic seafood. One of their specialties is oysters and my husband always insist that I try them. I do like them cooked an dipped in butter. My husband will eat them raw and cooked just about any way.

Really, though, if you are going to the Gulf of Mexico, or any other coastal area, you do have to take advantage of the great sea food you can get there. Oysters are an excellent source of zinc, vitamin B-12 and omega-3 fatty acid. The problem is that you have to be careful about eating oysters that are properly prepared. Eating raw oysters can damage your health and even be fatal. If you have liver disease, diabetes or a weakened immune system you should avoid eating raw oysters.

Fortunately, there is a website that provides a guide for who can and can’t eat oysters and how to eat them and remain healthy as well as take advantage of the health benefits they can offer. My husband and I will still be eating Gulf oysters when ever we visit the Gulf of Mexico. We’ll eat them raw, teamed, fried, charbroiled and grilled no doubt but we will BE OYSTER AWARE!
