Late fall is the best time to get away to Florida. Its less crowded and not so hot. Also, there are some special St. Augustine events during that time period. They have a special festival on the last Saturday in November and the last Saturday in December called Uptown Saturday Night. St. Augustine is home for many artist and as the oldest city in the United States that means there are some incredible antique finds to be discovered there.

You can enjoy the St. Augustine Artwalk on Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th, and the first weekend of every month after that. First Friday Weekend Art Walk is when San Marco Avenue is alive with music, people and activity. The shopping district is a big party for those nights. You can visit the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum, tour the Mission of Nombre de Dios, meet artists, shop for antiques, spend time learning at workshops given by artists and more. Each shop acts as a host in the midst of the larger event. There is no admission fee and there’s plenty of free parking. These self-guided monthly artwalk is the opportunity to experience the finest collection of eclectic art in North Florida.

I love St. Augustine. I love the ancient feel the city has. At least its ancient as far as cities in the United States go. The Mission of Nombre de Dios was founded in 1565. The 150 year old walled houses of Old St. Augustine Village was host to Napoleon’s nephew Prince Mura. During the many years it was still in use it hosted numerous celebrities and dignitaries.

I’d love to spend time rummaging through antiques from the days of the Spanish explorers first set up bases in and around St. Augustine. What a great weekend get-away Uptown Saturday Night in St. Augustine would be!
