I hate to admit I’m a fan of “The Girls Next Door”

When I heard the premise of the show “The Girls Next Door” I groaned. How stupid can you get! An 80-year old playboy (Hugh Hefner) with three twenty-something blonde girlfriends. How could Holly, Bridget and Kendra think so little of themselves?

Then I watched the show, and I hate to admit it, but I was hooked. I now have it TiVo’d - and I’m in the process of watching all the old reruns. Old Hef goes around kissing all three - along with kissing everybody else who’s around, too. Holly calls him “Puffin” while Kendra and Bridget seem to prefer “Honey.” They talk about how wonderful Hef is, and Holly dreams of marrying him - since she’s the #1 girlsfriend who sleeps with him each night. And Hef plays the magnamimous benefactor very well. It’s silly and superficial . . . and I love it!
Kendra enjoys bragging about how she’s an athlete. She loves competition - and she loves flashing people. Bridget is probably the perkiest one of the three, and yet she’s working on a doctorate - I think. In one episode she talked about going to school and Holly mentioned that Bridget has two masters degrees. I’m not certain about that because I didn’t replay it, and I deleted that episode after I watched it. I’m almost certain, though, that’s what they said.
Via the show we’ve met Bridget’s family - including her brother who’s serving in the Army and has had two tours of Iraq. We’ve also met Kendra’s family. However, I have yet to see an episode that gives any background information on Holly. The three women seem to enjoy sharing Hef. And he’s 80+ years old, after all, so it’s not that he can be terribly demanding of them.
